The practical steps of walking daily as a new man IN Christ
When we are born again, something supernatural happens within us. The old man dies, and the new man rises — not by willpower, but by the Spirit.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
This is not self-improvement. This is transformation.
The Greek word Pneuma means Spirit — breath — life. When we walk in the Spirit, we are not striving to become better; we are surrendering to become new.
Daily life begins to shift:
- Prayer becomes conversation.
- Scripture becomes nourishment.
- Conviction becomes guidance.
- Obedience becomes love in action.
- “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” — Galatians 5:16
- This is the practical outworking of a renewed heart.
Learning to Pray
For many people, prayer feels intimidating. Where do I start? What do I say? Am I doing it right?
The most important truth to remember is this: Prayer is simply speaking to God from your heart. There is no performance. No script required. No perfect words needed.
“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” — Psalm 145:18
God is always listening. He is loving. He understands your fears, your confusion, your gratitude, and your longing before you even speak.
“Your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” — Matthew 6:8
When we were young, many of us learned to recite the Lord’s Prayer from Gospel of Matthew 6:9–13. That prayer is not meant to be repeated mechanically — it is a model. A structure. A framework for how to approach the Father.
Here are eight practical steps to guide you into consistent, meaningful prayer:
1) Know to Whom You Are Speaking
Prayer begins by addressing God personally. He is not distant. He is Father.
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.” — Matthew 6:9
You are not speaking into the air. You are speaking to the Creator of the universe who calls you His child.
2) Thank Him
Gratitude aligns your heart with humility.
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18
A thankful heart shifts your perspective from lack to abundance.
3) Ask for God’s Will
Transformation happens when our will bows to His.
“Not my will, but Yours, be done.” — Luke 22:42
This is where the old man dies daily.
4) Say What You Need
Bring everything to Him — big or small.
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7
God is not overwhelmed by your requests.
5) Ask for Forgiveness
Confession keeps the heart clean and soft.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9
Conviction is not condemnation — it is loving correction.
6) Pray With a Friend
Faith was never meant to be walked alone.
“For where two or three gather in My name, there am I with them.” — Matthew 18:20
There is strength in agreement and encouragement in unity.
7) Pray the Word
Scripture is one of our most powerful tools.
“For the word of God is living and active.” — Hebrews 4:12
When you pray God’s Word back to Him, you are aligning your heart with truth.
Memorize Scripture
Hiding the Word in your heart strengthens your daily walk.
“I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.” — Psalm 119:11
The more Scripture fills your mind, the more naturally your prayers will flow.
A Word of Caution and Faith
There is no “perfect formula” for prayer. But one thing matters deeply — humility. Prayer is not demanding from God. It is trusting Him.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5
We may not always understand His timing or His ways.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the Lord.” — Isaiah 55:8
But we walk by faith, not by sight.
Reading the Word Daily
If you are anything like me and like structure, you may want to read the Bible from cover to cover. That is admirable. But it can also feel overwhelming.
There is no rule that says you must read it in order. Sometimes the Spirit leads you to different passages at different times. Let faith guide you. Let hunger guide you.
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” — Matthew 4:4
Scripture becomes nourishment. Prayer becomes breath. Obedience becomes evidence.

Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
